Awake and Defend Action Movement,(ADAM) a Pro-Eastern Nigeria pressure group on Friday urged the Federal Government to seek peaceful means of internal conflict resolution rather than using military solutions.
The group gave the advice in a statement issued in Aba on Friday and signed by its interim chairman and secretary, Ndubuisi Igwekani aka Agubiafra and Chief James Ekpo.
The statement said that government resorting to military options in internal affairs would increase youth violence, extremism and militancy.
According to the group, military solutions “create room for youth violence and extremism and give them opportunity to massacre our people”, hence the need to avoid it.
ADAM’s statement was coming on the heels of a military-civilian clash in Aba on Wednesday which left three civilians reportedly injured with bullet wounds
ADAM said that they would oppose any arrangement that would bring about the unnecessary death of Eastern youths in Igboland henceforth.
The group further urged the Federal government to muster the courage to restructure Nigeria in a way that would guarantee the safety and security of all Nigerians anywhere in the country.
It however, warned youths of Eastern extraction to desist from criminal acts such as “kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, yahoo-yahoo, gambling, prostitution and child-trafficking” and violent behaviours.
It also condemned the act of using Voo-doo to get rich quick which act they said was increasing now in the region stressing that “it will not be business as usual” any longer.
“Now for the political class from Eastern Nigeria, ADAM hereby call upon all our elected politicians from state governors, legislators and all elected office holders to be accountable to the people of Eastern Nigeria.
“Henceforth, ADAM will monitor every Federal Government and international development partners project assigned to Eastern Nigeria and will henceforth expose every evil and corrupt practices in Eastern Nigeria.
“In this 2019 election, we are calling on all Easterners especially the youths to actively participate in the election according to their conscience.
“Knowing full well those who have performed in the past or those who have the potential to perform according to the trust of the people”, they said.
The group faulted Ohaneze Ndigbo’s alleged endorsement of Atiku Abubakar stressing that it could create political problems for the Igbo people hence the need for the cultural group to stop meddling in politics.
