Commercial activities in
Aba, the economic hub of Abia, was
paralysed by the heavy presence of ground troops of Nigerian Army in an
operation code named Operation Python Dance II.
Our Correspondent who monitored
the situation in Aba on Thursday reports that some commercial banks were closed
for business.
As at 8 a.m on Thursday
banks in the city, including First Banks at Abayi and Post Office Junction,
Skyebank on St. Michael’s Road, Union and Eco banks on Factory Road, were all
closed.
Our reporter observed that
only Heritage bank close to Ochendo Motor Park was open but amidst tight
security.
Ariaria market was shut down
on Thursday morning following alleged attacks on the Ariaria Police Station by
unknown persons.
There was a heavy presence
of soldiers at every major junction on the Enugu -Port Harcourt Road as well as
Mosques in the city.
Okehi Chisara, an Aba resident
who spoke to our reporter said that the town had become too hot for them to stay.
He said that it had become
tough for any sane person who loves his life to stay and be comfortable even
with the closure of banks as they could no more get money to feed with.
However calls put through to
the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Geoffry Ogbonna was not answered.
When a call was put through
to the phone line of the Abia State Commissioner of Police, Mr Leye Oyabde, a
voice said that he was in a meeting.
