The Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki has promised to support the Leather Products Manufacturers Association of Abia State (LEPMAS) to access the patronage of government agencies and to improve their productivity.
The Abia state governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Media Driver on “Project Made-in-Aba”, Mr Sam Hart on Tuesday, disclosed this during an interview with our reporter in Aba.
Hart said the information was communicated to the Abia state government on Tuesday through Saraki’s Media Adviser, Alh. Yusuf Olaniyonu.
He said that Saraki had invited members of LEPMAS to his office next week for a meeting to discourse modalities for increased productivity which would help to expanding Nigeria’s economy.
According to Hart, Saraki who has been supportive of Aba made products has shown his commitment to ensuring Nigerians buy Aba products which would grow Nigeria’s economy.
“The senate president has formally extended an invitation to leather products manufactures in Aba to encourage them to continue what they are doing and to be able to throw his weight behind them.
“He has assured that he would use his good office to ensure all agencies of government source locally all the things they have been buying abroad as a way of helping the Nigerian economy recover.
“He said he has been particularly impressed with the people in Aba, their resilience and their creativity.
“He wants to assist them in opening up new markets and stimulate their activities by creating new opportunities for them so they can buy new equipment in order to improve the quality of their goods”, Hart said.
Hart noted that Saraki having worn many Aba products has believed in the quality of the Made-in-Aba products hence his desire to support the development.
He added that the Senate President who he said had been a proud ambassador of Made-in-Aba products believed that “it is only when we look inwards that we can solve our economic challenges”.
