Abia Police Command confirms rescuing two kidnap victims in Aba

Abia Police Command has confirmed the rescued of 2 kidnap victims from their captors at Amauzu Okpulo-Umuobo Community in Osisioma Local Government Area of the state.

The Abia Commissioner of Police, Janet Agbede confirming the rescue on Saturday told our Correspondent  that the Police was still on the trail of the hoodlums.

A Police source said that the two kidnap victims are Nwankwo Chinedu (male) 42 years and Ndukwe Agu (male) aged 48 years who were both abducted at Okpulo- Umuobo road, on Wednesday late evening.

He said the kidnappers abducted the victims on Wednesday May 7, 2020 at about 10:00 pm along Okpulo-Umuobo road near Jesus Christ of Later Day Saint Church Temple in Aba.

The source said when CP Agbede heard of the incident, she directed Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) Commander in Abia, SP Johnbull Obioguru and the Counter Terrorism Unit (C.T.U.) men to go for the victims. 

He said that later same Wednesday night, the SARS Commander with his team stormed the kidnappers hideout which is located somewhere in Amauzu Okpulo-Umuobo community in Osisioma Council area. 

According to the source, the hideout of the kidnappers was the home of one of the kidnappers where the victims were kept pending ransoms negotiations before their rescue.

“When the kidnappers saw the SARS team coming towards their direction, they opened fire and the SARS team responded and overpowered them.

“In spite of the fact that they had high performance fire arms, they took to their heels, abandoning the victims in their hideout. 

“During the gun duel with the hoodlums, two of the criminals sustained gun shot injuries and escaped with it”, he said.

The source noted that the police recovered a Techno Cell phone, suspected to belong to one of the hoodlums and an RX 350 Jeep belonging to one of the victims. 

He also said that the police arrested a woman nursing a baby who was believed to be a wife to one of criminals who at the time of the onslaught was in the building where the kidnappers kept their victims.
